Troubleshoot extension setup or missing chats

By Droidex · Updated

The extension workflow: keep your Droidex vault unlocked in another Chrome tab, open a Claude conversation, and click the Droidex icon → Save this chat. Review the received messages in Droidex’s Import screen and confirm to save. The Claude reader is experimental, so check the result and keep your original chat.

1. Save a Claude conversation with the Chrome extension

Claude capture is experimental: its reader has been checked against a mock Claude page, but has not yet been verified on a real signed-in claude.ai conversation. Review every capture and keep your original; if it fails, use copy/paste instead.

  1. Open the extension installation page in desktop Chrome and click Download test version. Installation is a one-time setup; the Chrome Web Store listing is still awaiting review.
  2. Extract droidex-extension.zip in your Downloads folder: on Windows, right-click → Extract All; on Mac, double-click the ZIP.
  3. Type chrome://extensions into Chrome’s address bar. Turn on Developer mode, click Load unpacked, and choose the extracted folder containing manifest.json—not the ZIP. Keep this folder in place. In Edge, use edge://extensions instead.
  4. Click Chrome’s puzzle-piece Extensions icon and pin Droidex so its icon is easy to find beside the address bar.
  5. Create or open your Droidex vault in the same browser and leave the unlocked tab open. Creating a vault needs a Droidex account; unlocking an existing one does not.
  6. Sign in to Claude on its own website, open the chat, and scroll through the messages you need. Click the Droidex extension icon → Save this chat.
  7. Return to your unlocked Droidex tab and open Import if it has not opened automatically. Check the received messages and their roles, then confirm the import. Nothing is permanently saved by capture alone.
  8. Read the saved conversation in Chats. Download and verify an encrypted .droidex backup before clearing browser data or moving devices.

If the chat does not appear

Make sure Droidex and the AI chat are open in the same browser, your vault is unlocked, and the extension is enabled. Click Save this chat again, then return to Import. The extension page’s guided check can check whether the extension is detected and a capture has arrived. Review promptly: unclaimed captures are discarded after 10 minutes or when the browser closes.

The extension reads supported chat-page text only when you click. It is not automatic syncing, a full account export or a guaranteed archive of artifacts, uploaded files, images or conversation branches. The desktop extension does not run in Claude’s mobile app.

You never give Droidex your Claude password. Captured text stays on your device and is encrypted into the vault after you confirm the import; it is not sent to a Droidex server or cloud AI. The original chat remains with Anthropic. If you later paste a context pack into another AI, you are sharing that selected text with the destination.

Droidex is in open beta and has not been independently security-audited. Read its encryption and recovery limitations.

Claude’s built-in options vs Droidex

Droidex extension

Best for
Organising and reusing chat text in a local vault
What you get
A conversation reviewed and saved in an encrypted vault
Privacy
Captured text stays on your device; no Claude password shared
Main limitation
Desktop test build; Claude reader tested on a mock page, not a real signed-in chat

Claude data export

Best for
An archive of your account’s conversation data
What you get
Conversation and user data, downloaded through an emailed link
Privacy
Requested from Claude; not a Droidex encrypted backup
Main limitation
Account-wide, not a documented single-chat PDF download

Claude shared chat

Best for
Letting someone view a conversation snapshot
What you get
A link to messages included when you share
Privacy
Anyone with a public link can view it; organization sharing is restricted
Main limitation
Not a downloaded backup; later messages do not automatically appear

2. Export your Claude conversation data

Claude’s official account export includes conversation data and account user data. It is the built-in choice for an account archive rather than a single-chat printout.

  1. Sign in to Claude on the web or in the Desktop app.
  2. Open Settings → Privacy.
  3. Choose Export data and follow the request steps.
  4. Watch for an email at the address associated with your Claude account once processing finishes.
  5. Download while signed in. The link expires 24 hours after delivery; request another export if you miss it.
  6. Open the download, check what it contains and keep the original somewhere private.

Individual Free, Pro and Max users can request an export. The iOS and Android apps cannot initiate one. Team and Enterprise members can export their own data only if an organization Owner or Primary Owner enables that permission; member exports exclude uploaded-file contents. Organization-wide exports are a separate Primary Owner function.

Claude’s cited instructions do not specify the download format or a guaranteed delivery time. Do not assume it produces PDFs, includes every attachment, or imports directly into Droidex. Droidex has no dedicated Claude account-export adapter; paste or supported text-file import is the fallback.

3. Share a Claude chat snapshot

Use Share in the conversation and follow Claude’s sharing dialog to create a link. Review the chat for sensitive details before sending that link.

The snapshot includes messages sent before sharing, including artifacts. Later messages remain private unless you unshare and share again. Uploaded files themselves are not included. On plans with public sharing, anyone with the link can view the snapshot; Team and Enterprise sharing stays within the organization.

A shared link is not a private local backup. It is a way to grant access to a snapshot hosted by Claude. Keep a downloaded or local copy if you need your own archive.

4. Copy text or save a Claude conversation as a PDF

For one answer or selected messages, copy the text into a local document. Include both your prompts and Claude’s replies if the context matters, then check the formatting and completeness.

  1. Open the conversation and display the messages you want to keep.
  2. Copy the selected text into a local text editor or document.
  3. Save the document. For a PDF, open its print dialog and choose Save as PDF or your system’s PDF option.
  4. Open the saved file and check the first and last messages, tables and code blocks.

You can also try your browser’s Print command directly on the Claude page, but inspect every page of the preview: it may omit content or produce awkward layouts. These are document/browser workarounds, not a verified built-in Claude PDF export. A normal document or PDF is not encrypted by default, and Droidex does not import PDFs.

An artifact download is not a conversation export

Artifacts are separate outputs that open alongside the chat. Saving an artifact saves that output—not the surrounding prompts, replies or your full conversation history. Keep the conversation separately if you need its context.

Common questions

Can I download just one Claude chat?

The cited official export is an account-data request, not a documented single-chat download. For one chat, use selected text in a local document or try the experimental Droidex capture path and verify the result.

Can I export from my phone?

Claude’s iOS and Android apps cannot initiate data exports. Use Claude’s web interface or Desktop app. The Droidex web app can display on mobile, but its capture extension is desktop-only.

Will saving a chat transfer Claude’s memory to another AI?

No. Saved chat text is not Claude’s hidden memory. Droidex prepares a context pack you review and copy or download, then paste yourself. The destination decides how it uses and stores that text.
